Tribute to the late Lalitbhai Sheth

Dear Lalitbhai

It's the first time I'm writing to someone who has just passed away and the last rights remain to be completed. Though you may not see or hear it, I haven't the heart to leave it unsaid. For you are a man I had great respect for - your pioneering ideas, before their time, your public relation skills and hard work to back it up.

My son decided to do his internship this summer with Raj Travels as opposed to another big name travel company. He had come to his own conclusion that he'd get to learn a lot more with Raj Travels. When he told me about his decision, I encouraged him, to his own surprise. Because I believed in you. For I could see the glass half full. Unfortunately, you may have seen it almost empty.

My son messaged me on BBM earlier today, which I read and responded to, while on a working trip to North East India.

Son: Lalit sheth committed suicide
Father: My heart bleeds and eyes weep. Another why, which will never be answered. I had a lot of respect for him which is why I let you work there. Whatever he may have done. God bless his soul.
Father: I beg u, please go to his funeral with lots of flowers. He was your first boss. U must always respect that.
Son: Yes I will

Lalitbhai, you had it all right, but probably couldn't put it in place. A big lesson to all aspiring entrepreneurs, not to overstretch themselves, to build organizations right, to know when to grow & to know when to exit. Always surround yourselves with people who guide you well and work for you, though they may be (or because they are!) more competent in areas you lack in. My son wanted to learn from you. He did. But it didn't have to be this way! He shares my grief and I, his. We will never forget you.

My sincere condolences to your family. May your soul rest in peace!

Shree Krushnah shranam mamah !

(I apologize to anyone I may have offended by writing this.)
